Craig Lawrence's V&A moment

Fashionista was thrilled to learn that one of her favourite designers, Craig Lawrence, has been awarded a retrospective by the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of its “Fashion in Motion” series of live fashion events. Lawrence is supported by the Centre for Fashion Enterprise, a pioneering business incubator that supports and nurtures emerging fashion design talent.

On Friday 20 July 2012, Ipswich-born designer Lawrence’s work will be celebrated with a day of catwalk shows held in the V&A’s grand Raphael Gallery. Lawrence will join an impressive list of fashion elite who have previously taken part in the “Fashion in Motion” events, including Gareth Pugh, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen.

Famous for his use of unlikely and inventive materials such as sweet wrappers, gold foil, bin bags, Kyototex (a Japanese metallic foil covered yarn) and even computer cables (see image), Central Saint Martins alumnus Lawrence creates individual, playful collections, with knitwear as his signature. It’s not just Fashionista who loves his unique designs: Craig Lawrence counts celebrities like Daisy Lowe, Lady Gaga, Tilda Swinton and Bjork among his other devotees.
