Thumbs-up for Westgold, Metals X merger |
The security holders of ASX-listed Westgold Resources on Wednesday approved a merger with fellow listed Metals X. The two companies announced the A$330-million merger in May, which would see Westgold shareholders receive 11 Metals X shares for every ten shares held. Full Article |

Court declares Gold One's Ezulwini strike unlawful |
The Labour Court has granted Gold One an interdict against the strike at its Cooke 4 shaft declaring the industrial action at the Ezulwini mine, which started on Monday, unprotected and unlawful. The ASX- and JSE-listed company's employees were interdicted from participating in the industrial action, which is in contravention of a two-year wage agreement signed in July. Full Article |

Metallica teams up with KBM Affilips to advance Sconi project |
Metals developer Metallica Minerals has entered into a nonbinding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with master alloy producer KBM Affilips for scandium supply and aluminium-scandium alloy market development. The two companies would form a strategic alliance to benefit from the significant demand for aluminium-scandium alloys in the aerospace industry, as well as other transport sectors. Full Article |

BC Iron hits export target |
Iron-ore miner BC Iron has achieved its export milestone, on Wednesday reporting that it had exported more than five-million tons of ore from its Nullagine joint venture (JV) since export started in February 2011. The Nullagine JV dispatched its latest shipment from project partner Fortescue Metals' Herb Elliott port, in Port Hedland, in September this year, and exported 203 138 t of iron-ore. Full Article |

Altura adds to WA lithium resource |
Diversified explorer Altura Mining has nearly doubled the mineral resource estimate of its Pilgangoora lithium project, in Western Australia. The project was now estimated to host a Joint Ore Reserves Committee compliant resource of 25.2-million tons, at 1.23% lithium oxide for some 310 000 t of contained lithium oxide. Full Article |

Rio water feeds agricultural project |
Diversified major Rio Tinto on Wednesday reported first water flow from one of its 17 irrigation centre pivots at its Hamersley agricultural project (HAP), in the Pilbara. The HAP is one of several users of surplus water from below water table mining at the company's Marandoo iron-ore mine, with other options including operational supply, supply to the Tom Price township, reinjection into the Southern Fortescue Borefield, or discharge back into the environment. Musgrave signs earn-in deal in S Australia |
ASX-listed Musgrave Minerals has entered into a heads of agreement with a subsidiary of fellow listed Terramin Australia to earn a 75% interest in the Menninnie Dam silver-lead-zinc project, in South Australia. Under the terms of the agreement, Musgrave would have to spend some A$1-million on the project within the first 12 months. The company would then have the option to spend a further A$5-million on the project over a futher four years, to earn a 51% interest. Full Article |

Paladin gets first pay-out on offtake agreement |
Uranium miner Paladin Energy has received the first tranche of $50-million in its $200-million offtake agreement with a major utility. Glencore files EU antitrust notice for Xstrata deal - sources |
Trader Glencore has formally notified the European Commission (EU) of its $33-billion plan to take over miner Xstrata, sources familiar with the matter said, after months of preliminary talks designed to pave the way for a swift approval. Once the notification has been acknowledged by the commission, the European antitrust regulator has 25 days to decide whether to approve, reject or begin an in-depth probe into a plan to create the world's fourth largest miner.
