The Bureau of Indian Affairs is seeking public input on the environmental impact of the proposed Ho-Chunk Nation Casino in Beloit. A public hearing is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at Aldrich Middle School, 1859 Northgate Drive, Beloit when the public can make comment. The bureau is reviewing an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the Ho-Chunk Nation, Beloit and Rock County regarding the proposed tribal casino, and will soon start an Environmental Impact Statement. The School District of Beloit is forming a new committee to drum up more participation and enthusiasm in sports activities. The committee will meet for the first time at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kolak Education Center. During the meeting the committee will set up times for future meetings and goals. The group's mission is to explore how the district and community can bring winning and pride back into the city. It will focus on finding strategies to improve programming, set specific goals and develop a public relations plan in order to have greater buy-in from students, parents and community members for athletic programs, according to Board of Education President Shannon Scharmer. Gaston Elementary School teachers and staff used the stipend they earned from lunchroom and recess supervision to purchase 20 more iPads for students along with an iPad cart. "I am proud of our teachers stepping up and doing this for their students.
