Short of switching off our TVs, there's no hiding from the Olympics as we approach the lavish Opening Ceremony directed by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle next Friday. So best we dive into the deep end and enjoy the sporting spectacle and all the programming related to Britain's golden fortnight. On Monday, Billy Mitchell carries the Olympic torch through Albert Square in a special live segment in EastEnders (right), while on Wednesday Doctor Who star Matt Smith plays 1948 gold medal-winning rower Bert Bushnell in BBC1 historical drama Bert and Dickie. ITV gets on the podium with a special Olympic version of Dancing on Ice, starring Olympians such as Colin Jackson. And then of course all the action kicks off with the aquatic events, where we await with trepidation the high-diving feats of Tom Daley. Tom tells us about his nerves, his late dad and much more here. Finally, be sure to vote in our Soap Legend poll. Tell us who your favourite soap character is and enter a draw for a new TV.
