New State company remuneration framework to stress delivery against compacts
DPE director-general Tshediso Matona South Africa's Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) says its review of State-owned company (SoC) executive remuneration is well advanced and that the model that is eventually adopted will seek to strengthen the link between performance, as defined by shareholder compacts, and remuneration. Sasol a step closer to Canada's first gas-to-liquids plant
Sasol is turning to North America for GTL growth. Its flagship Oryx plant in Qatar is running at full capacity. Sasol is a step closer to building Canada's first multibillion-dollar plant to convert cheap natural gas to diesel and other fuels after the South African company signed an option on an industrial property near Edmonton, Alberta. Government acts on SA mine violence
Put down your weapons and stop committing violence, or face the full might of the law, Justice Minister Jeff Radebe warned striking miners on Friday. In an announcement made in Pretoria, following a meeting of security cluster ministers and other Cabinet members, he said government would no longer tolerate the violence, threats and intimidation taking place in the mining sector. Paradigm shift needed to sort out sanitation problem
Sanitation will take centre stage in government's infrastructure build programme, Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale told Parliament on Friday. Tabling a summary of the long-awaited report of the Ministerial Sanitation Task Team (MSST) to the portfolio committee on human settlements, Sexwale said the document revealed the neglect government had subjected its people to since 1994. Kenya pins middle-income transition hopes on big infrastructure push
Kenya Airways CEO Titus Naikuni expressed his frustration last month over the controversies bedeviling the construction of a new terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Delays to the $655-million project, dubbed the Greenfield Terminal, were caused by controversies surrounding the award of the contract to Chinese company Anhui Construction Engineering Group. The car still rules, says research body
Global production of passenger vehicles (cars and light trucks) rose from 74.4-million units in 2010, to 76.8-million units in 2011, and 2012 may see the industry record an all-time high of 80-million or more vehicles, states environmental research body Worldwatch Institute. The top four producers of light vehicles, China, the US, Japan and Germany, account for more than half of global output. Railway investments needed to cope with Zimbabwe coal growth
In its current state, Zimbabwe's railway network would not be able to accommodate the anticipated growth in the country's coal sector, Zimbabwe Ministry of Transport, Communications and Infrastructural Development principal director Mufaro Gumbie said this week. With sufficient financial assistance, Zimbabwe's coal production was expected to reach seven-million tons a year, from two-million tons forecast for 2012. Full Article

Mondi buys Dura-Pack operations in Germany, Czech
JSE-listed Mondi Group on Friday agreed to buy two of packaging systems, material handling and loading equipment company Dura-Pack's operations for £125-million.
