A thief has been shot dead by the police in Minuwangoda.
Police Media spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakody said that the deceased was part of a group of men who had attempted to snatch a gold chain from a youth on the Divulapitiya road in Minuwangoda.
A group of four had arrived in a threewheeler and had attempted to snatch the gold chain from a youth.
However, a tussle broke out and the thieves had opened fire which incidentally injured one person.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakodi said that thereafter the burglars had fled once the police arrived at the location and that shots were fired at the police by one of the thieves.
